Ricky Weiss Steals River Cities Opener Victory

Ricky Weiss entered the opening round of the annual John Seitz Memorial on Thursday night at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota).

The $1,250-to-win, Prelude to the Johnny drew a field of thirty-eight Late Models to the oval for the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) event. Ricky won his preliminary heat race, locking him into the fifth starting spot for the 30 lap feature. In the main event, Weiss stalked early leader Brad Seng for much of the race before stealing the lead from Seng on the 27th circuit. Seng stayed close over the final laps, but it was Weiss who cross the finish line first, just .387 second ahead of Seng. A.J. Diemel, Don Shaw, and John Kaanta rounded out the top five finishers.

On Friday night preliminary events were contested for the John Seitz Memorial. A stout field of forty-six WISSOTA Late Models registered for the event, and Ricky raced to a tenth place finish in the dash to lock into the tenth starting spot for Saturday’s 92 lap, $9,200-to-win finale.

During the course of Saturday’s main event, Ricky advanced to a third place finish behind race winner, A.J. Diemel and Joey Penderson. Jake Redetzke and Jeff Provinzino rounded out the top five finishers.
