Ricky Weiss continued his week-long trek in the 39th Annual Winternationals on Friday night at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Florida).
A doubleheader was on tap for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), as Friday’s originally scheduled event boosted a $10,000 top prize. Forty-one Super Late Models were on hand for the program, and a third place finish in the first heat race earned Ricky the ninth starting spot for the 50-lap feature. Weiss battled around the top ten for much of the event but ultimately settled to a fifteenth place finish in the final rundown.
Weiss also entered the $5,000-to-win program that was schedule for Monday night but washed away by Mother Nature. Ricky finished second behind Billy Moyer Jr. in his preliminary heat race to lock into the seventh starting spot for the 25-lap finale. Weiss was battling in the top ten when he lost the handle on his entry on lap eight and spun, drawing the caution. Ricky was able to rejoin the tail of the field, but would only manage a nineteenth place finish at the checkered flag.
Saturday night’s finale boosted a $10,000 winner’s check for the East Bay Winternationals finale. Thirty entries registered for the LOLMDS event, and a fifth to third run in his heat race earned Ricky the eleventh starting spot on the feature grid. Unfortunately, mechanical issues during the 50 lap finale forced Weiss to retire to a 23rd place finish.
