Ricky Weiss made the trek to Dakota State Fair Speedway (Huron, South Dakota) over the weekend for the annual Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100.
Action opened on Wednesday evening with Round #1 of the four-day event. A strong field of forty-two WISSOTA Late Models registered for the $2,000-to-win, preliminary program. Ricky drew the tenth starting spot for his heat race, but was involved in a melee with another competitor which brought his night to an early end as he failed to qualify for the feature event.
Thursday would prove to be a much better outing for Ricky, charging from tenth to finish third in his heat race, which locked him into the seventh starting spot for the $2,000-to-win preliminary feature. In the feature Weiss advanced to a fourth place finish in the final rundown behind race winner, Lance Matthees, Nate Beyenhof, and Brian Diede. Chad Becker completed the top five finishers.
Ricky’s preliminary efforts earned him the eighth starting spot in Saturday’s WISSOTA 100 finale. Weiss was battling for second and tangled with another competitor, bringing out the yellow flag. Weiss was charged with the caution, and sent to the tail of the field. From there, he retired to a disappointing 24th place finish in the final rundown.
