Ricky Weiss was back in action over the weekend as the team traveled to LaSalle Speedway (LaSalle, Illinois) for the annual Thaw Brawl.
Friday night’s program boosted a $5,000 top prize to competitors, which drew a field of thirty entries. Ricky qualified second in his group and went on to win his heat race, locking him into the pole position for the main event. During the course of the feature, Weiss battled at the front of the pack for much of the event before settling to a sixth place finish in the final rundown.
Saturday evening saw thirty-two Super Late Models registering for battle, all chasing the $15,000 winner’s check. Weiss posted the fastest lap in his group during time trials before once again claiming a heat race win. Ricky started second on the grid and assumed the point at the drop of the green flag on the 75-lap finale. Weiss led the first twenty-one circuits before slipping back to as far as fourth in the running order at times only to recover a solid third place finish behind race winner, Bobby Pierce, and Chris Simpson. Brian Shirley and Jared Landers rounded out the top five finishers.
