Runner-up Finish in Thaw Brawl Opener at LaSalle Speedway

Friday night found Ricky Weiss in action at La Salle Speedway (LaSalle, Illinois) for the Lucas Oil Late Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) sanctioned double-header. Drawing 48 Super Late Models for the Hoker Trucking Thaw Brawl, Weiss timed in eleventh fastest in his qualifying group locking him into the 4th-starting spot for his heat. Sending the Top 2 into the opening night feature, Ricky streaked to a 10-lap heat race win locking his spot into the main event. Rolling off 3rd, Ricky Weiss led for two laps near the mid-stages of the feature but landed a 2nd place finish after challenging Shannon Babb on the final corner coming up short by .174 of a second. Returning on Saturday evening for the $15,000 top prize, Ricky jumped up one spot in his heat to capture the 10-lap victory. Rolling off 4th for the main event, Weiss improved one position in the 75-lap affair to place 3rd behind Chris Simpson and Rusty Schlenk with Chad Simpson and Brian Shirley rounding out the Top-5.

Top 5 Finish in Bama Bash at EAMS

After Mother Nature wiped out Thursday’s opener at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee), Ricky Weiss headed to Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia) on Friday evening for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Shamrock. Holding his spot in his heat race, Weiss landed a 2nd place finish behind Chris Madden locking him into the 5th-starting position for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. The following night in a field of 36 cars at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama) for the Bama Bash, Ricky secured his spot into the A-Main with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Scott Bloomquist. Earning the 8th-starting position for the $12,000-to-win feature, Weiss improved three spots in the 50-lapper to place 5th behind Brandon Sheppard, Scott Bloomquist, Don O’Neal, and Dale McDowell.

Weiss Bags $6,400 Bonus Series Victory at Toccoa Raceway

On Friday night Ricky Weiss headed to Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, North Carolina) for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned contest. In a field of 21 Super Late Models, Weiss timed in second fastest in qualifying behind Shane Clanton before running 2nd to Clanton in the 40-lap feature. Casey Roberts, Shawn Chastain, and Jamie Oliver completed the Top-5 finishers.

Saturday night brought Ricky to Toccoa Raceway (Toccoa, Georgia) following the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series. Earning the 4th-starting position for the feature after laying down the down fastest time in his qualifying group, Weiss overtook Casey Roberts on lap 18 and held the top spot for the next 46 circuits to capture his third win of the season and a $6,400 payday. Shanon Buckingham, David Payne, Zack Mitchell, and Brent Dixon rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 64-lap affair. (Brian McLeod photo)
