Wrapping up the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series season, Ricky Weiss invaded the Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, North Carolina) on Thursday evening for the Can-Am World Finals. Drawing 69 cars for the rain-shortened qualifying session, Weiss recorded the 15th fastest time in his group before coming in ninth fastest on his second lap.
Coming two spots shy of a transfer position in his heat on Friday with a 5th place finish, Ricky went on to pick up a 10-lap consolation victory which positioned him 20th on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $12,000 on the line, Weiss passed six cars in the 50-lapper to place 14th.
On Saturday afternoon starting in third in his heat, Weiss streaked to an 8-lap heat race victory locking his spot into the $12,000-to-win finale. Rolling off sixth, Ricky broke into a podium spot early and overtook Jonathan Davenport for second on lap 33. Unable to close in on Jimmy Owens, Ricky Weiss notched a runner-up spot behind Owens with Dale McDowell, Mike Marlar, and Chris Madden rounding out the Top-5. (Brent Smith photo)
