Podium finish in Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence

On Wednesday evening Ricky Weiss was one of 53 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) for the 34th annual Ralph Latham Memorial. Passing three cars in his heat race to grab the third and final transfer spot, Weiss locked into the 17th-starting position for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Wheeling his way into a podium spot, Ricky improved 14 positions to register a third place finish behind Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton with Tim McCreadie and Hudson O’Neal rounding out the Top-5. The following night for the North/South Shootout, Ricky logged a sixth place finish in his heat, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Coming in second behind Billy Moyer Jr., Weiss locked into the 21st-starting position for the show. With $10,000 on the line, Ricky advanced forward eight spots to register a 13th place outing.

With a pair of heat races on Friday afternoon setting the grid for the North/South 100 on Saturday, Weiss jumped up one spot in his first heat to place eighth. After Mother Nature shifted the second round to Saturday afternoon, Ricky came in third.

Failing to lock his spot into the show via passing points, Weiss had one last shot at the $50,000-to-win Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place third or better, Ricky fell one spot short with a fourth place outing. Earning a spot into the non-qualifiers feature, Weiss cruised to the 30-lap victory to pocket $2,000.
