Weiss rebounds to runner-up finish in Bristol Bash finale

On Friday evening Ricky Weiss followed the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series to Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) as the famed facility covered the half-mile oval in dirt for the two-day Bristol Bash. In a field of 29 cars, Weiss clocked in eighth fastest in his group before placing third in his heat. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 12th, Ricky was involved in a pair of tangles on lap 20 and lap 37 that dropped him back to 16th when the checkered flag flew. (Michael Boggs Photography)

After Saturday evening’s program was postponed to Sunday afternoon, Ricky followed up the fourth fastest time in his group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Receiving the pole position for the $25,000-to-win Bristol Bash via the redraw, Weiss assumed command of the lead on the opening lap and set a comfortable pace out front for the first half of the 40-lapper. With a lapped-car allowing Devin Moran to sneak by on lap 31, Ricky went to place second behind Moran, with Ross Bailes, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Brandon Overton completing the Top-5 finishers.

Ricky is sixth in the latest World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings.
