Sixth-place finish in Knoxville Nationals finale

Back behind the wheel of his Drydene Engine Oils No. 7 Late Model, Ricky Weiss made a mid-week stop at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Tuesday afternoon for the sixth round Castrol FloRacing Night in America miniseries. (Heath Lawson photos)

In a stout field of 42 Late Models for the third annual One for the Road, Weiss got buried in time trials and was never able to rebound to qualify for the $22,022-to-win A-Main. Following a ninth-place finish in his heat, Ricky recorded an eighth-place outing in his B-Main, ending his night early.

On Thursday, Ricky was one of 48 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries amassed at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) for the 18th annual Knoxville Nationals. With a second-place finish in his heat race placing him on the fifth row for the preliminary feature, Weiss faded five spots to finish 14th.

For Friday’s $7,000-to-win prelim, Weiss came in sixth in his heat before going from third-to-first in his B-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10 on the feature, Ricky passed 12 cars in the 25-lapper to register a sixth-place finish.

With passing points from prelims pinning Ricky 14th on the starting grid Sunday’s rain-delayed $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals A-Main, Weiss advanced through the field eight spots in the 50-lap affair to cross the line in sixth.
