Weiss charges to eighth-place finish in Roscoe Smith Classic at Senoia

With a Tuesday night rainout to start the week, Ricky Weiss followed the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) on Thursday afternoon for the Roscoe Smith Classic.

With a strong 47-car field on site, Weiss narrowly missed an A-Main transfer spot in his heat race after a hard-fought battle for the third-position. Receiving a provisional starting spot, Ricky overcame an early spin in the 44-lap feature to go on a 26th-to-8th charge through the field in the Roscoe Smith Classic.

The following night at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.), Weiss qualified sixth-quickest in his group before a heavy thunderstorm rolled into the area. Officials were forced to postpone the event to August 18th.

Heading back into Georgia at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) on Saturday, Weiss followed up the fourth-quickest lap in his group with a runner-up finish to eventual race-winner Zack Mitchell in his heat race. For the $10,053-to-win Rebel Yell event, Weiss suffered a mechanical issue on the third lap of the main event. After going to the tail, Ricky recovered to a 11th-place finish.

Sunday's Southern Nationals event at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) was postponed due to heavy rain showers.

Ricky is currently third in series points.
