Ricky Weiss Doubles Up In Tennessee

(Seymour, TN - 6/22/24) - Ricky Weiss, fresh off his Tazewell Speedway win, wasted no time returning to victory lane one night later, cashing in on his second $10,000 win of the weekend, this time at the 411 Motor Speedway. Very similar to the night before, Weiss found himself running second with about 10 laps to go when he made the pass, this time on Hayden Cardwell, who got slowed up by the back half of the field. Weiss made the winning pass with nine laps to go and did not look back, even holding on after some contact with Hayden Cardwell on a late-race restart that also collected Jason Welshan and Mack McCarter in the process.

Weiss's win would be his third all-time and his third of the 2024 season. Previous wins include I-75 on April 20th and Tazewell the night before, on June 21st. In victory lane, he commented, "This team is really jelling right and has made some great strides in the shop." Following Weiss across the stripe were Tyler Millwood, Dustin Linville, Chase King, and Matt Henderson, rounding out the top five positions.

The evening officially got underway with Stakt product by CV Racing Products time trials, where Maryville, TN driver Jason Welshan was the overall fastest qualifier with a 15.810, scoring himself a free door panel courtesy of Stakt product by CV Racing Products. Welshan was fastest in group 1; Seymour, TN driver Bradley Lewelling was fastest in group 2 with a 16.274; Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN was quickest in group 3 with a 16.070; and Seymour, TN driver Chase King rounded out time trials as the quickest in group 4.

The 10-lap Chevrolet Performance heat races began with Welshan and Cory Hedgecock leading the field to green. Hedgecock led for 2 laps, but Welshan ultimately took the lead and didn't look back, leading eight of the ten laps. Heat race 2 saw Bradley Lewelling and Randy Weaver lead the field to green. They battled for multiple laps until a late-race restart, when Mack McCarter found himself in a battle for the lead. Contact between Weaver and McCarter brought out the yellow flag. The field stacked back up, and Dustin Linville took the lead, finishing off the last four laps for the win. The third Chevrolet Performance heat saw Skylar Marlar and Hayden Cardwell go door to door for the opening lap, but Cardwell took the lead and didn't look back, leading all ten laps of the heat with Ricky Weiss and Matt Henderson in tow. The fourth and final heat race saw Seymour, TN driver Chase King lead Jesse Lowe and Mario Gresham to the finish line, also bringing Greg Martin with them into the main event.

Two Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet B-Mains ended the prelims for the night. Knoxville, TN driver Addison Cardwell led flag-to-flag in B-Main one, with Bubba Roling and Josh Dietz also advancing into the main event. Bradley Lewelling held off Tanner Collins and Marty Lunsford for the final three lock-in spots for the night, setting the 13th Annual J.T. Kerr Memorial starting lineup heading into the 71-lap feature.

The 13th running of the J.T. Kerr Memorial saw 24 drivers line up to take the green for the 71-lap, $10,000-to-win main event. Jason Welshan and Hayden Cardwell led the field to green, with Chase King and Dustin Linville in row two. Welshan wasted no time jumping out to the early lead and pulling away until the first yellow of the night, which involved Cruise with the Champion Rookie of the Year contender Josh Ray and Cory Hedgecock, a 5-time J.T. Kerr Memorial winner. The incident ended the night for the former two-time series champion on lap 11.

Racing resumed with Welshan still in the lead until lap traffic became a factor. Youngster Hayden Cardwell made a three-wide move in turns three and four to take the lead, pacing the field and leading a race-high 32 laps. Multiple cautions led to multiple restarts, and then Ricky Weiss made his presence known, running down Cardwell in lap traffic and eventually slipping by Cardwell in turns one and two with nine laps to go. Bradley Lewelling slowed off turn two, and the caution flew, setting up a three-lap dash for $10,000.

Weiss led the field out of turn four, and Cardwell followed down to the bottom of turn one, making contact with Weiss. Both drivers slid up the racetrack, eventually turning Cardwell around and collecting Welshan. Mack McCarter, with absolutely nowhere to go, slammed into the nose of Welshan's Savage Chassis. This set up one final restart, and Weiss did not look back, leading the final three laps and cashing in on another $10,000 payday, his third career Rogers-Dabbs Performance Parts Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model Series win of the 2024 season.
